
A Glimpse into My Journey
Welcome to my corner of the digital universe! I am Dr. Amy Igou, the Halverson Associate Professor of Accounting, specializing in Accounting Information Systems (AIS) and the profound impact of emerging technology on the financial world.
Before joining the faculty at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI), I dedicated 19 years of my professional life to Deere and Company. Within Deere, I navigated a spectrum of roles, ranging from information systems audits to leading the implementation of SAP projects. These experiences were my stepping stones to understanding the intricate relationship between technology and finance. My educational journey led me to earn a Ph.D. in Business Administration, with a focus on Management Information Systems from Southern Illinois University.
Teaching Philosophy: Going Beyond the Ordinary
In my classes, I believe in equipping students with a diverse range of educational opportunities beyond traditional exams. We dive into real-world business technology scenarios and solve problems, instilling a practical understanding of how AIS and technology function in the corporate world. My goal is to guide students in achieving their course objectives and helping them succeed in the dynamic field of accounting.
Hobbies & Interests
Beyond the academic realm, I’m an avid fan of college football and basketball. I also cherish the world of literature, with a penchant for reading a variety of novels and nonfiction books. My husband and I share a love for travel, constantly exploring new places and creating unforgettable memories.
Education and Research Interests
My educational background includes a B.A. in Accounting and Computer Science from Luther College, an M.B.A. from St. Ambrose University, and a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Southern Illinois University. My academic interests span a wide range of subjects:
- Teaching Interests: Accounting Information Systems
- Research Interests: Software Development Methodologies, IT use in Nonprofit organizations, Using Data Analytics in the Classroom, and Big Data applications.
Professional Accomplishments
My professional journey at Deere & Company was instrumental in shaping my approach to teaching and research. I actively draw upon experiences from my years at Deere, particularly my contributions to the SAP implementation team, as a foundation in both my teaching and research endeavors.
I’ve had the privilege of publishing in esteemed publications such as the Journal of Accounting Education and Business Process Management Journal. Additionally, I’ve presented numerous papers at conferences and participated in engaging panel discussions.
I hold the title of a Certified Management Accountant and remain an active member of the local Institute of Management Accountants chapter, ensuring I stay connected with the latest industry trends.
